Rooted & Reborn
The story of our 1875 home—restored, reimagined, and reborn as a living sanctuary of love.
Begin with the story that started it all — The House That Chose Me. As I write the rest of our restoration stories, this space features some of my favorite details of our 150-year-old home — the pieces that first made me fall in love.

The letter, the signs, the quiet pull of destiny. This is the story of the house that chose me.

According to the old Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps, this porch was added around 1929 — a later chapter in the house’s story that we’re slowly bringing back to life.

These old church doors came out of a little church in Unity, NH. They later became part of the apartment that eventually became my in-laws’ home in our multigenerational space. They stood as the altar at our vow renewal, and next summer they’ll become the entrance to my greenhouse. These doors have traveled with us through so many chapters already.

Original to the house, this built-in china cabinet is one of my favorite features. The old glass, the woodwork, the character — little details like this are what made me fall in love with this 1875 beauty.

This living room wall has been slowly revealing her secrets — thanks to curious toddlers and four mischievous cats. Under the textured teal wallpaper, we found the original patterned paper. A little glimpse into the room’s past.

These leaded glass windows hold light like no other — especially at Christmastime, when the whole house feels like it breathes.

She greets you with her original wood columns, her fabric-wrapped walls, and a thousand stories held in her steps. One day soon, she’ll rise in new colors and molding, but for now she stands as she’s always been — grand in her own way.

This cornerstone faces directly across the lake to the Mother Mary Shrine — a quiet alignment I didn’t notice until years later, but now feels like part of the house’s original blessing.

The front door has welcomed generations before us. Restoring it feels like honoring every story that has ever crossed this threshold.
